Christopher Hitchens: Jesus Did Not Exist?
Christopher Hitchens As a Mad Man
Chritopher Hitchens is a voucher , he will go for any argument which might work, for him to doubt the existence of Jesus is less than foolish.
We have specific dates of when he lived, who is parents were, who is followers were, Jewish history affirms that Jesus was living at the time;
-We have more evidence of Herod, the fact that he extended the temple.
-We have specific history of where Jesus preached, like Capernaum, which there is archeological evidence of even though it is no longer a habitable place.
-We know who the opponents of Jesus were.
- We have specific genealogies of his.
If Hitchens says that Jesus did not exist then he has to tell why Jews accept that Jesus existed when some people blame them for his death. They could easily say “you are right, Jesus did not exist.”
I want to see an academic paper which claims that Jesus of Nazareth ( Hitchens also calls him that), so Nazareth existed as a town?
In ten years time people like Hitchens will be arguing that Michael Jackson did not exist, he is not man but a media creation.
Historians have specific ways to see whether a historical person existed in the past. There greater evidence of Jesus existiting than of Julius Caesar being the ruler of the Roman Empire.
But as I have indicated Christopher Hitchens is an amateur sage, he is not much of a historian, a scientist, a logician or a philosopher king. But that is not going to stop him running his mouth ragged because he is a cheap populists who thinks that Atheists have no brains and will back everything against Christianity.
The lack of precision, just announces to everyone that these men are making it up as they go along.
If Jesus did not exist please tell us who embellished the story, so far Mr Hitchens you are giving us the usual allegation, it is time you proved that Jesus did not exist.

And where exactly is this historical evidence? Has any of it been corroborated?

Oh, and maybe readers would be interested to watch the documentary The God Who Wasn’t There, which questions the existence of Jesus, examining evidence that supports the Christ myth theory against the existence of an historical Jesus.

“…for him to doubt the existence of Jesus is less than foolish.”
Ok it is LESS than foolish.
“We have specific dates of when he lived, who is parents were, who is followers were, Jewish history affirms that Jesus was living at the time;”
Anywhere other than the Bible?
“We have more evidence of Herod, the fact that he extended the temple.”
Gosh
“We have specific history of where Jesus preached, like Capernaum, which there is archeological evidence of even though it is no longer a habitable place.”
Anywhere other than the Bible?
“We know who the opponents of Jesus were.”
Gosh
“We have specific genealogies of his.”
Specific yes, but they are conflicting genealogies, check it out for yourself.
“If Hitchens says that Jesus did not exist then he has to tell why Jews accept that Jesus existed when some people blame them for his death. “
No he doesn’t.
“I want to see an academic paper which claims that Jesus of Nazareth ( Hitchens also calls him that), so Nazareth existed as a town? “
What?
“In ten years time people like Hitchens will be arguing that Michael Jackson did not exist, he is not man but a media creation.”
There is plenty of evidence, from multiple sources, that Michael Jackson existed. If Jesus is who you claim he is then your god would have provided indisputable evidence from multiple sources.
“Historians have specific ways to see whether a historical person existed in the past. There greater evidence of Jesus existiting than of Julius Caesar being the ruler of the Roman Empire.”
Please provide the evidence.
“But as I have indicated Christopher Hitchens is an amateur sage, he is not much of a historian, a scientist, a logician or a philosopher king. Well you have indicated – now THAT means a lot.
“The lack of precision, just announces to everyone that these men are making it up as they go along. “
Gosh
“If Jesus did not exist please tell us who embellished the story, so far Mr Hitchens you are giving us the usual allegation, it is time you proved that Jesus did not exist.”
You prove he did.

What a stupid question.
The questions that aren’t stupid are things like, if there was a Jesus of Nazareth as described in the Bible, why don’t records of when Herod, Pilate, etc. would have been around coincide with sightings of a comet, or other things that would certainly have been noticed by a lot of people 2,000 years ago, and would have been recorded in accounts written at the time. Instead, all we have are varied reports about Jesus written decades (at least) after his death, whenever that may have been.
The writers of the gospels should have been better record-keepers if they were trying to write historical accounts. As it is, it looks more like they were writing the account of a story, which may have been a hodge-podge of the lives of many people.
Who knows.

“…it looks more like they were writing the account of a story, which may have been a hodge-podge of the lives of many people.”
Yes, that is exactly what it looks like (and I believe it is), if it was truly “God’s Word” there would be no contradictions, no vague passages and no reason to question. God also (in my opinion) would not have relied on mankind to write it down. What amazes is how many people believe it’s the literal “Word of God”, basically, because it says it is.

The sad thing is, you are serious when you ask that.

Nobody,
I wonder if DW is mentally-handicapped. Between his frequent indifference to basic English grammar and this, I almost feel sorry for him. Almost – because he seems proud of his stupidity.
He asks questions like this as though, in this case, there were always Christians. Or maybe he thinks that the Jewish peoples who came before were really Christians. We can’t know though, because he rarely puts complete thoughts into his comments (or his posts for that matter). They’re just fragments of thoughts.
To Dawkinswatch (I’ll take pity on you),
Christianity grew out of Judaism, and then spread through converting gentiles through Europe by way of the Romans beginning under Constantine. Often, the conversions were at the end of a sword, and when it wasn’t, it was usually by decree. That’s where Christians came from – from pre-existing peoples converted through conquering and feudal influence. All at least nominally in the name of someone who, if you believe what the gospels wrote about him, probably would not have liked what was being done in his name.

I’ve been dealing with him long enough to agree with you that he is mentally handicapped. At first I thought he was maybe 9 years old, then possibly that the site was a spoof. It didn’t take me long though to realize that he’s just a loon.
Have you seen his other blog “stuff girls like”? It’s just as whacked out.

I was raised and indoctrinated into the catholic faith like most catholics as a child. Catholicism has continued over the centuries because of family traditional indoctrination of their families into the faith.
There is no historical FACTS or EVIDENCE that there ever was a DIVINE man named jeshua or jesus. There are no writings, artifacts, coins, image descriptions from this era, nothing. There is no FACTUAL HISTORICAL evidence that there was a mary or joseph. No historical evidence that King Herod massacered all infant males under 2.
What happened to mary and joseph? What happened to the 12 apostles? No writings or historical evidence about them. There is plenty of historical evidence of King Herod and Pontious Pilate, but nothing ever recorded about the ressurection of a man named jesus by Pilate.
Growing up in the catholic faith I believed at an early age the stories about jesus were UNIQUE, but later on as an adult we learned very quickly that born on December 25, born of a virgin, had apostles, was a miracle worker, died and was spirited away was very common by other mythical gods that came centuries before. Mithras belief that was formed centuries before was also born on december 25, and believed that if you drank the blood from a bull and ate its flesh you would live an eternal life. Just like catholicism teaches at communion you are actually eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Jesus for eternal life. There are way too many parallels and copy cat stories by christianity to make it credible. The old testament writings ended centuries before this supposed jesus. The new testament writings were years after his supposed life and the 4 gospels written by men unknown contradict each other but christians continue to believe. There might have been a man that lived named Jeshua, but the real story of a divine jesus with not one piece of historical evidence is BUSTED!……..
