Richard Dawkins Is Not Amused

I do not get Richard Dawkins’ whole problem with children being christian, look at thsese kids they have taken to this very easily.  Afterall, Jesus said that unless you receive the kingdom like these little ones you will not enter the kingdom of God.

  1. You have to understand, Dawkins has a pro-truth position, meaning that he always wants to know the truth, and thinks that others should too.

But it’s painfully obvious that Christianity isn’t true. Just like Islam isn’t true, and Judaism, and Hinduism, and Sikhism…

So Dawkins just doesn’t like parents telling their kids things that aren’t true, and making them go through all of these strange rituals for no reason. You can understand being pro-truth, can’t you?

  2. Frantz is right, Christianity is false, and teaching such things to children teaches them to not question things and to hate others.

  3. Also that the children are taught something to be true, when they are far too young to make up their own minds. Dawkins wants religion left out of kids lives until they are old enough to make their own judgements about it, which seems fair enough to me.

  4. I agree with Dawkins. This is basically a form of child abuse. It was tragically made clear the other day when an 11 year old girl died because she was sick with diabetes and her parents chose to “Pray” for healing rather than take her to the doctor.

That little girl would still be alive if her parents weren’t brainwashed (likely in childhood) into believing in the power of prayer. Very sad…

  5. Oh God… No, just… no. No, this is not evidence that there is such a thing as a “Christian child” or that it’s OK to label children as such. These kids are saying stuffs about God because their parents are taking them to church. Had their parents been Muslim, they’d be saying stuffs about Allah. Had their parents been Ancient Greek they’d be saying stuffs about Zeus.

Children don’t just come into the world and decide “I’m a Christian.” They get told that they are Christian children and don’t know any better.

  6. Well these kids are normally more spiritually mature than most adults. You did not see anyone indoctrinatining these children.

  7. Dawkinswatch,

Well these kids are normally more spiritually mature than most adults.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – you really are determined to ignore reality.

Still, I can see how you would say that you don’t see any kids being indoctrinated here – you don’t see much of anything in that clip. See Jesus Camp for more indoctrination and child abuse.

  8. I saw two kids going up on stage at a church in a video that was about 2 minutes long saying stuffs about God. I’m sure that there’s a name for this fallacy, I don’t know what it is, but just because I didn’t see these kids parents indoctrinating them in the video doesn’t mean that they weren’t being indoctrinated.

Honestly, are you going to say next that because we didn’t see these children’s parents in the video these children spontaneously came into existence in the world just as they spontaneously said “I’m a Christian”?
