  1. What do I think?

First off, please don’t lie. There is no intelligent design controversy in universities any more than there is a theory of intelligent design.

Second, Ben Stein is quite forthright in what he thinks this is all about: religion. It’s not about science, or he’d actually talk science. He wants to pretend that religion is science, which is just brainless. And that’s what he sounds like – brainless, with a thin veneer to pretend that he’s intellectually honest.

  2. Ben Stein should stick to Clear Eyes commercials. An ideologue like him knows nothing about science. The dogmas that his video ‘reveals’ do not exist. Scientists reject Creationism because it it’s wrong.

    Like I said, dawkinswatch, we in the science camp are pro-truth, pro-reason, and pro-thought. We’re pro-making-sense, but we’re anti-bullshit and anti-dogma.

  3. I wonder, would a public school teacher in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, be allowed to say the following:

“It is interesting to contemplate … [all the many forms of life on earth] … so different from each other, have all been produced by laws acting around us. … There is grandeur in this view of life, HAVING BEEN ORIGINALLY BREATHED BY THE CREATOR INTO A FEW FORMS OR INTO ONE; and that from so simple a beginning, endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved.”

Just imagine a public school teacher who says those words: that God creates life and places it on the earth in a few forms, and then that life evolves according to the physical and natural laws that God put into place in the universe.

    Would that be allowed?

Actually, it should be REQUIRED FOR THE TEACHER TO SAY THAT.

Why? Because the quote is from: On the Origin of the Species, Chapter XV, Recapitulation and Conclusion, By Charles Darwin.

If you are going to teach Darwin’s theory of evolution in public schools, you should teach what Darwin actually wrote about it.

  4. Mr. Class,

You are quite wrong. In the first place, it is modern biology that should be taught in our nation’s classrooms, not the text of Darwin. The theory of evolution started with Darwin, but it has gone for beyond what he wrote.

Second, one can’t teach about the existence of a creator in a classroom for two good reasons. The first is legal; to do so is against the law. The second is moral; it’s simply not true.
